The Mermaid's Mirror by L.K. Madigan

Genre: Young Adult
Pages: 336
For ages 12+

"Lena has lived her whole life near the beach — walking for miles up and down the shore and breathing the salty air, swimming in the cold water, and watching the surfers rule the waves — the problem is, she’s spent her whole life just watching.

As her sixteenth birthday approaches, Lena vows she will no longer watch from the sand: she will learn to surf.

But her father — a former surfer himself — refuses to allow her to take lessons. After his near drowning years ago, he can’t bear to let Lena take up the risky sport.

Yet something keeps drawing Lena to the water . . . an ancient, powerful magic. And one morning Lena catches sight of this magic: a beautiful woman — with a silvery tail.

Now nothing can stop Lena from seeking the mermaid, not even the dangerous waves at Magic Crescent Cove.

And soon . . . what she sees in the mermaid’s mirror will change her life forever." -Goodreads

The Mermaid's Mirror by L.K. Madigan was a book that at first I couldn't get into but by the time I got to the middle of the book I was hooked!

The character Lena was a character that you could easily connect to. It was fun to be able to go onto the journey that Lean was going on in this book. Unfortunately, Lena wasn't very different from other YA characters. She didn't stand out.

One problem I had with this book was that it was in third person. So at some points I couldn't understand who was doing what, until they talked. Some times the people wouldn't even talk after the sentence so I would be extremely confused on who was doing what.

Other than the third person confusion, this book was FANTASTIC! The story line wasn't like any other, the word choice was phenomenal, and the book just seemed to flow throughout.

The ending did not fit with me well. I like either a cliffhanger or a nice "tie all the ends together" end. This was not one of those endings. Since some of you may have not read this book yet I can't really get into much about the ending.

This book was an easy read so I definitely recommend it. If you like light yet paranormal books this would be a book for you!

I give this book 4 out of 5 diva crowns!

Dear Jewelz,
Thank you for the review. I'm really glad you enjoyed the book. Lisa had plans for books two and three, so the ending had to work as both a stand alone and leave you wanting more. There are two other finished manuscripts with characters from Flash Burnout, but no contract to publish either one. Only time will tell their fate.
Your friend always,
Neil

Thank you so much for reading my blog! I really appreciate it. I was really hoping that there could be a sequel but I was devastated to hear about Lisa. Thanks again!

What a beautiful site you have created here! it's full of personality and VOICE! (I had to sneak that in.) Wouldn't it be cool if someday we could do this kind of thing as a class assignment? Just think, everyone could spend class time reading, designing a blogspot, posting reviews, commenting to each other . . . it wouldn't even feel like school. But for now, you are on your way to becoming a published author, so keep sharing your thoughts, insights, and PERSONALITY!

Thanks Mrs. B! I was so excited when I saw you commented! I hope you will be able to keep reading and see what else I review. If you go down to my very first post it is on Absolutely Maybe, the book I borrowed from you! :)
